We're two-for-two!

Can't ask for a better start to basketball season; the Boys won their first game 48-40 on Tuesday night! That's one for the the win column for both the Rams and the 'Belles!

It's gonna be a great season for both teams; I can just feel it!

The 'Belles win!

What a great game tonight! The ladies' basketball team opened their season again St. Edwards. For most of the game, the score was back-and-forth, and it was tied at the end! As John Flint, the announcer, said, we got some "Bonus Basketball!"
But we quickly took the lead, with 7 points early in the 5-minute overtime period. Final score was 76-64.

It was so great seeing the freshmen get to play too. The future of the 'Belles looks bright!

Great way to start the season, Ladies!

A funny moment at Ram Club

Coach Carr was talking about next year's team. He was enthusiastically saying that next year, the freshman/sophomores on the team will have more hair on their faces, which was understood to mean that they will be older, and more experienced.

The last speaker was Coach Waddington, the volleyball coach. He was saying that he, too, has a young team this year, but that he was hoping that next year they (his girl players) would not return with hair on their faces!

Thanks Coach Waddington, for your fun sense of humor!

Athletic Foundation Luncheon today

Today is the last luncheon of the semester~ come join us, and hear about all the teams that have played this week!

$10 includes lunch! Ram Club Luncheons are in the Junell Center. See You there!

Good-Bye, University Hall

Typically, the Junell Center is the place where ASU fans come to watch our basketball and volleyball teams play. Other special events, like concerts and banquets have been held there as well.
But on Sunday morning, it was the outside of the Junell Center where spectators sat, or stood, to watch the implosion of University Hall.
After a siren and a series of loud "booms," University Hall came tumbling down.
Although not a sports event, it was an event that many ASU fans came to witness, so they could say "I was there" when the dorm, also known as the Women's Highrise, came down.
Some cheered when it was done, but for some, it was a solemn moment. A piece of ASU history, and a part of the San Angelo skyline, gone forever.

University Hall Implosion

Not a sports post, but I thought this would be interesting for ASU fans... If you're in town on Sunday morning, you won't want to miss the implosion of University Hall... Sometime between 7:52 & 8:30 am. Be sure to get there early; officials will suspend all traffic by 7:45 a.m. in the area bounded by Jackson Street and Johnson Street and Avenue N and University Ave.
Here's the link to the Standard-Times article about the implosion... (Sorry, no camping out the night before) :)
Here's to hoping we'll all be tired Sunday morning, from being up late celebrating a huge Rams win over West Texas A&M!

Homecoming Game

Okay, so sadly, we did not win Saturday night... But what a great night!

First, thanks to all of you who braved the cold and wind to come out and support ASU. It was so fun to see so many different organizations represented.

How great was it that *I* won Homecoming King??? I have to say, I did not expect that! But, I proudly accept the honor.

For the second time this season, the Spirit Line stretched from end zone to end zone... That takes a lot of fans! And, that meant many of you had to put down your hot chocolate to do it! While I was nice and warm under my wool coat, the Angelettes, Cheerleaders, and even the football players looked a little cold. So, thank you for making your way down to the field to participate!

I also need to thank the anonymous fan who sent me the pictures at the top of this post. Two of them show the Spirit Line, and the other shows me with the rest of the Homecoming Court.

Regardless of the outcome of the game, I am proud of my team, and proud of all the fans that came out to support us at Homecoming.

The next home game is on Halloween... Come dressed up as the Best Ram Fan!

Football team wins again!

Was everyone as totally psyched as I was while listening to the football game in Blackwater Draw, NM last night? I have to say, I was a little concerned after hearing Jeremy Bryant's (radio sports announcer) ominous reminder of the bad luck our team often has at Blackwater Stadium.

When we were ahead 19-2 at halftime, I was hoping that our bad luck had run out, and that tonight's luck would be good.

Were you all like me, holding your breath in the 4th quarter? 19-16 was a little too close for comfort... But the team came back to life, and only let ENMU score once in the last quarter, while we scored 28 points!!!

Wa-a-a-a-y to go guys~ final score 47-23! Our winning streak continues!

Football!

Before this week's game at ENMU, I have to talk about last week's game...

IT.WAS.AMAZING!!! By far, one of the best games I have seen in a long time.
While they are nerve-racking for the team and coaches, the best games for fans are those that come down to the final minutes. And at the game on Friday against Midwestern State, fans not only got their money's worth, they got a bargain. Midwestern State, who was ranked number 17, by the way, trailed most of the game. They made a comeback near the end of the game, but it wasn't enough for the Rams, who were *hot* that night.

Aside from the team playing extremely well, the crowd was awesome! And, the spirit line- the double-line made by fans just before the end of halftime- was the longest I have ever seen at an ASU game! It literally stretched from end zone to end zone. Our next home game is Oct. 17, and it is Homecoming... Let's do that again!

Football this Saturday!

Ram football at home this week! Now that the weather has cooled down some and it actually feels like football season, come on out and cheer for your Rams!
Saturday night, 6:00. See you there!

An Interview with Volleyball's Coach Waddington

With 'Belles volleyball team going 4-0 in its first weekend of play this season, I wanted a chance to chat with Coach Waddington - to get some insight on his team and his thoughts for the season. ~R

Roscoe: Your team's success early in the season brings to mind other successful teams in sports history. It always seems like there is one or two characters on the team... Can you tell us which players(s) keep other players loose in the locker room?

Coach: I would say that we have at least two “characters” on our team. First and foremost would be senior captain Alaina Sivells. She is always cracking a joke or making a random comment that makes everyone laugh. Freshman Claire Chomout is probably second in command in terms of making people laugh. With the two of them around, there is never a dull moment.
Sophomore outside hitter, Cara Turney is probably one of the funniest kids I have ever met. To go along with that, she is quite the accomplished baker. Whether it is with a tasty treat or with a funny comment, she certainly keeps the team smiling.

Roscoe: Who would you say is the emotional leader on the team?

Coach: I would have to say that our other senior captain, Kimber Duncan, would probably be the emotional leader on the court. We typically go as she goes. She is a dynamic player on the court and really a fan favorite.

Roscoe: Of all the players on the team, who can you see becoming a head volleyball coach someday?

Coach: Without question, junior setter Alex Allard will be a head volleyball coach somewhere down the line. Her passion for the game and teaching others about it will lead her to great success in the coaching field.

Roscoe: You're in your 2nd season here in West Texas. Being originally from New York, was there anything here that you found strangely difficult to get used to (other than a blogging rambouillet)?

Coach: I grew up in the mountains in upstate New York and lived there for 24 years and then spent 12 years in Florida. I went from blizzards to hurricanes. Now being in West Texas for nearly two years, I have to adjust to another natural disaster, tornadoes. I love the dry air and cool nights in the winter, but I wouldn’t complain if we had the occasional snow storm every once in a while.

(Roscoe reply~ Ya never know; this could be our year for snow!)

Roscoe: You've had some success in your first year. Expectations are high this season. Do you think your team is ready to meet those lofty expectations?

Coach: I definitely feel like our team is ready to take the next step. Last season was great and we achieved everything we set out to. Our goals are a bit loftier this year, but I feel like with the talent we have in our program and the gym culture we have established when we train anything is possible. It’s going to be a great year for Belle Volleyball!!!

Good luck with your games this weekend!

Thanks!

Great Weekend for ASU!

It was a wild and wool-ly weekend for ASU's volleyball and football teams. Both teams charged into the possibility of winning seasons. The Volleyball team is 4-0 and the football team won its opening game, 21-7. Way to go!

Interesting Ram fact:

Ram is a sign in the Chinese Zodiac. People born in the Year of the Ram tend to be artistic, passionate, and elegant. [1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2115]

Leave a comment if you were born in a "Ram" year!

So glad school has started!

Hi Ram and 'Belle fans~ This is my first attempt at a blog. Since I am not allowed to speak in person, this is the only voice I have.

When I realized how close we are to fall sports, I almost sheared myself.

I've been so busy running around getting ready, I almost pulled a hamstring. What a minute... Do I HAVE a hamstring?

It's a busy time for the Rams and 'Belles- click on the link to check out the schedules for volleyball, soccer, and football! Games for all start this week.

I leave you now with the first installment of Roscoe's Comedic Repertoire:
